average rate of change

average rate of change: the slope of a line between any two pints.

function

dunction: a pairing of inputs with outputs such that each input is paired with exactly one output.

independent variable

independent variable:  the "input: variable.

zero of a function

zero of a function:  is an x-value for which f(x)=0 or y=0

parent function

parent function : the most basic in a family of functions.

parallel lines

parallel lines: two lines in the same plane that do not intersect; and have the same slope.

y-intercept

y intercept: the y-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the y-axis.

dependent variable

dependent variable: the "output" variable.

range

range: the set of all outputs of a function.

absolute value

absolute value: a number "a" is the distance between "a" and 0 on a number line.

perpendicular lines

perpendicular lines: when a two lines intersect at a right angle; and their slopes are negative reciprocals.

function notation

function notation: a way to name a function using f(x) instead of using "y".

X-intercept

X-intercept: the x coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the x-axis.

absolute value function

absolute value function : a function that contains an absolute value expression.

domain

domain: the set of all inputs of a function.

slope intercept form

slope intercept form: a linear equation written in the form y=mx+b
